You’ve studied and practiced your piano lessons, you’ve gone through beginner and intermediate classes, and now you are ready to venture forth in the exciting world of advanced piano lessons.

Once you are ready to begin your new lessons, you will have to find resources in order to successfully learn new skills and techniques. The first step will be to look for piano booklets for advanced piano playing at your local library or store.

You will also find many resources online that are specifically designed to help you reach your fullest potential or even sign up for professional piano classes in a music studio near your location.

Advanced lessons cover a lot of ground and you will learn many concepts and theories in order to master piano playing. Below you will find two quick recaps of two lessons you are sure to find in advanced lessons.

One of the hardest skills you will learn is identifying intervals within your music. The spaces existing between each note played are called intervals. For example, in the C Major scale, the distance between C and E is a third. E is the third note in the scale, therefore in becomes the third note from C.

These are called major intervals of the C Major scale and the same principle can be applied to any scale. Sharps and flats are even more complicated and will require deeper research prior in understanding their intervals.

Intervals are difficult to understand for most pianists and will require research and time in order to fully understand and recognize them. Training your ears will prove beneficial in recognizing intervals. Intervals are key building blocks for chords, your ability to create melodies and play by ear. Practice will make you perfect, so never give up.

Another vital element of advanced piano lessons is understanding the importance of note value. While the exercise might be boring due to the repetition of a single note over and over again, it will create a foundation for rhythms. Set you metronome at 60 beats per minute. Play one note twice for one whole note.

Four clicks of the metronome equals 1 beats. Press one note for 4 clicks, release and press the same note once again for 4 clicks. Do the same exercise for half notes, meaning 2 click of the metronome.

Repeat these steps over and over again with different notes. This practice will train your ears to the duration of each note, teaching you its value. Search online for various different exercises similar to this one as they will further your understanding of note value.

Continuing to advanced piano lessons should be a step taken lightly. Only move forward once you have completed and mastered both the beginners and intermediate courses. Learning advanced lessons may be exciting, but they require different sets of skills and knowledge in order to succeed.

If you do not wish to discourage yourself, it is highly recommended to not skip ahead to the advance lessons in order maintain a positive attitude. Don’t be frightened in returning to past lessons in order to retrieve a lost piece of information. Most of all, enjoy your new classes and good luck.
